Ever feel like you’re craving for a better prayer life? Kind of like you’re feeling your prayer life is dried up? Somewhere it doesn’t feel it has the strength or effectiveness you want. Or, maybe you’ve never ever experienced it in the first place, but you feel an untouchable force urging you to make a change in how you spend time talking with the Lord. Here are some ways toward a better prayer life.
The Journey to A Better Prayer Life
Just as our communication with our family and friends reflects the depth and quality of our relationships, our prayer life reflects our closeness with God. The better our prayer life is the closer we are to God. Even with a good, strong prayer life, there is room to improve.
If you are at like many women, life is filled with endless responsibilities. From personal experience, I understand that. Somedays I rush into tackling the neverending to-do list and I forget to start my day with the most important thing: time with my heavenly Father.
When did laundry and dishes become more important than prayer? It’s an eye opener because I noticed a big difference in how my day goes when I spend time with God. The stronger a prayer life is the better life becomes.
Things that used to irritate me lose their effect on me. I see things through God’s eyes and less through my own. Furthermore, it’s made me stronger against worry and stress because I am reminded I’m not alone. Try some or all of these ideas and improve your prayer life!
Start the Day in Prayer
Before all the chaos of the day starts, prayer. It sets your mind and spirit for the day. Even just a few minutes makes crazy, hectic, stressful days better. Think of this way: breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day. Morning prayer is the most important prayer of the day.
“In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly”. –Psalm 5:3(NIV)
Command Your Day
Scripture explains we have power in our words. There is power in our words to command how the day will unfold. So, when you start your day, pray to the Lord how you want your day to be.
Ask for His power to overcome any challenges. Instead of letting endless stuff stress you out and ruin your day, remember God’s in control giving you authority and strength to overcome anything.
“Have you ever given orders to the morning, shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?” –Job 38:12-13(NIV)
Believe You Will Receive
Put faith in God’s promises. When you pray, believe He will answer your prayers. Those words you say aren’t empty, He IS listening. God knows your prayers before you speak them. But, it helps you when you voice those prayers to Him and claim his promises in prayer.
The more you practice this in prayer, the stronger your prayer life becomes. Your prayer life is better. Faith is stronger. Your life is improved.
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”-Mark 11:24(NIV)
Protect Your Mind and Spirit
Be careful what you read, watch, and listen to. The world is filled with entertainment, advice, and ideas that contradict what God says or wills for our lives. When we read, watch, or listen to these things, it fills our mind with negativity.
Just like we may crave junk food, we know our bodies will pay a price for eating it. The more junk we eat the more our health is at risk. Well, the same it true of our spiritual health. The more we let in junk the more it harms our spiritual wellness.
I know this can be hard. It’s fun to binge watch tv shows. And, I’ve enjoyed suspense mystery novels. But, I realize these directly affect my spiritual well being when I spend a lot time watching and reading this kind of stuff. Instead, find other things to relax doing. The same goes for the company you keep. Limit your exposure to people who have a negative effect emotionally and spiritually.
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” -Psalm 51:10(NIV)
The Lord delights when his child strives to have a growingly close relationship with Him. You are His child. Call on Him daily and He will answer you.
